Round 1: Pre-Awakening AUs, Personas and Tarots, Lets Plan!

In order to do a little bit of planning before the test drive appears, we've made this post for a very quick round of pre-drive planning. Post the characters that you are interesting in trying out and ask for advice or suggest, or even try to look/entice for castmates! Suggest pre-made AUs where someone from cross canon has been living with you for a while, so when you begin the test proper tomorrow you'll have an idea of what you want to do!

The city of Eddan is like a typical metropolis, your characters can have any job that would make sense in a busy city. They don't have to be restricted to the school, or have a school job.

As the test drive begins, you are free to continue using this post to plan or ask the mods test-drive related questions. We'll do our best to answer in a timely manner! If you're not sure, don't be shy about asking. There's a lot of freedom!

You can also request to roll for a Persona. You can find information about Persona and the Awakening here. Ask for as many test drive characters you have if you'd like!

If you want to assign your character a tarot card for test drive purposes, you're free to pick whatever you think fits best. Your character's actual Arcana will be assigned after being accepted.

Hello! My name is Gil and I'm planning to test drive/app this asshole, Kira Sakuya from Angel Sanctuary. A friend of mine Rin will also be showing up with Katou Yue from the same canon. We'd really love more castmates if you're out there and thinking about it!!

I haven't really decided Sakuya's pre-Awakening background just yet; there's a lot of options depending on how much I want to torture him and I sort of wanted to see if there is anyone else there who might be considering playing cast who'd want to coordinate pre-Awakening life backstories and personalities. After talking with Rin we've decided to pull the guys from the beginning of volume 14, on the way back to Anagura after Zaphkiel dies but before encountering Rosiel, for the canon familiar.

Canonically, though, Kira is a thug, an asshole, and a flirt with a lot on his plate. Namely, guarding the reincarnated soul of the love of his life/master while he was a sword (long story), coming to terms with the fact that he's actually Lucifer (even longer story), and trying not to die in the process. My options are to either make him just as much of a jerk as he was in his canon (a guy with shady friends, shady connections, who skipped classes whenever he wanted but was also incredibly intelligent and had a string of girlfriends a mile long) or a relatively nice guy who's intelligent, among the top of his class, responsible and generally well-liked, a bit of a flirt but unable to settle down with a single girl for more than a few months at a time because he has an itch that Something's Missing. I do know for sure he'll be a student and 18 years of age.

DAMN it's been literally ages since I've seen Angel Sanctuaries around, I keep trying to finish the manga because Kaori Yuki is fucking amazing in general but I keep failing. One of these days. But I'm excited to see chars from the canon here!

Anyways, I'm guessing he's around college age? This kid is high school, but depends whether they both attend Green Valley or are in the same general vicinity. I'm looking at getting him into gardening and flowers, so I'm sure Kira will want a good number of bouquets for his lady parade. :U

I'm definitely test driving and most likely apping Hotaru Tachibana from Aoharu x Machinegun. Before her Awakening, she's going to be an ordinary high school girl with normal hobbies and normal speech patterns and normal opinions on the world around her. It's not until afterwards that her canon personality is going to come back and she'll regain her tendency to speak of herself in the third person, her burning desire to uphold justice and condemn any that might go against what is True and Right, and, of course, her, um, bloodlust.

Sure she's a totally normal main character from a totally normal sports anime about airsoft survival games, but give her a real weapon and real evil to smite? Things are going to get messy.

I'd love to plan out some cross-canon friends/family for her to get things started!

How do you do fellow nerds, I'm Bliss and I'm testing this upstanding young woman, Lucia Knightley Princess Twilight Sparkle. She is specifically the version from the magic horse dimension, and knows about the versions from the magic human dimension.

I'm not saying I'd like other cast members... okay no, wait, that's exactly what I'm doing. Let's figure out their high school/college AU in Eddan! I generally skew her headcanon age towards "younger college student" but I'm flexible!

Either way she's going to be something of a nerdy teacher's pet/Student Council President type, and while that won't change much post-Awakening she'll also focus more attention on friendship and saving the world/investigating the murders.

If nothing else, I sort of wonder if these two might recognize the other as a permanent fixture at the school library, right down to the exact tables/desks they've claimed as theirs. (And cue some boggling if they're seen somewhere other than the library because Excuse Me Miss But I Thought You Lived There.)

In her own canon Mitsuru had a run at being a student council president, but I'm up in the air on if I should pursue that. She's def going to be involved in extracurricular activities, though, so there's a bit more common ground.

I AM RIN/sohmamon and I am gonna test drive/app Katou Yue from Angel Sanctuary. I haven't decided much yet about his pre-Awakened identify, but the real dude is a 17-year-old drug addict who has already died a few times. He has a body made of plants (though it doesn't look like anything less than a normal human body) and is part angel now. He's kind of a weird guy and can be a huge asshole, but he's a loyal friend underneath all that.

MY THOUGHTS for Pre-Awakened identity is either:
A) A thug and a hooligan in his final year of high school, much in his life prior to the plot happening to him in canon, or
B) A nice family and slightly above average scores in school (also final year of high school), just to really mess with him when he gets his memories back.

My friend Gil wants to app Kira Sakuya of the same canon. We're both planning on pulling them from volume 14, after Zaphikiel dies when they're on their way back to Anagura, but before they run into Rociel. It's right before things REALLY go to hell for them.

A few of us are planning to app in (Yurio, Yuuri, Victor, and Otabek) and we'd love more canonmates (and non-canonmates!) to play with and of course to collaborate with.

For Yuri's memloss AU here I'm planning on him being a no good delinquent attending Green Valley (only his attendance and grades are perfect please don't tell anyone and ruin his street cred). I'm thinking he's probably really unsatisfied and unfocused because he hasn't found a passion here, so he acts out a lot and if you've ever been in his class (he's 15) you probably know him as being kind of a bully.

It'd be really cool to come up with some pre-planned negative CR since he's so dang grumpy, but hooligan buddies (or someone for him to be softer at) would be fun as hell too.

Hey guys! I'm Eon and I'm gonna be test driving this nerd from God Eater 2. He's Teruomi Makabe and is one of the Operators in his canon, which means he acts as wireless navigation for a bunch of people trying to fight giant monsters with vore machines. Think AOT except you're holding a titan in sword form. Job hazards include heart attacks from cliffhangers, seeing your friends being dead, and being depended on for every direction or piece of data. Fun times, really!

He's probably going to be an engineering student at the university in the daytime. In canon he's obsessed with looking over said vore machines, so pre-Awakenend his object of fascination will be cats instead (except he's allergic to them). He'll totally catcall.... some cats.

If you want a laid-back kind of buddy who will fix your computer for you, he's your man! And help you navigate at night, of course.

Hello, everyone! I'm Spark/truebluespark and I'm going to be bringing Adrien Agreste from Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Chat Noir to the test drive--and hopefully to the game proper! Hailing from Paris, France, Adrien is a sheltered rich kid who models for his dad's fashion company, but really all he wants is to be a normal kid and make normal friends. And then there's the magic ring and snarky magic cat-being that transform him into the superhero Chat Noir. Long story short, together with his partner and true love Ladybug, Chat fights to rescue Parisians who've been turned into monsters by the evil Hawkmoth. It's a ridiculous but really entertaining children's cartoon with a lot of heart, and I recommend you all check it out! And then app Ladybug/Marinette. I MEAN... yes that's what I mean.

I haven't completely nailed down Adrien's AU self yet, but I'm thinking I'll probably be mean to him and base the AU's personality off the original version of Adrien, from before the cartoon switched from 2D to 3D. "Felix" was an obnoxious, anti-social jerk, so Adrien will have an uphill battle making friends and shaking off his reputation. He's going to be a French exchange student, 14-15-ish, making him an early high-schooler, and I'd love for any other students/faculty to have had unpleasant encounters with the AU Adrien that he has to apologize for.

Hey all. I'm Lauren/laverinth and I'll be test driving Near from Death Note. You probably haven't heard of it. Near is one of two successors to L, the world's greatest detective who plays a prominent role in the first half of the series. He's a serious little guy who spends all of his time playing with toys. Clever mind, poor social skills.

I want his AU self to be similar, but without being raised in an orphanage for extremely intelligent children he'll end up being more of the quiet nerdy type who's forced into social interaction he no longer has the means to avoid. He'll still be confident in his own smarts, and that combined with the return of his memories will make him one asshole of a navigator. Enjoy.

Heeeeeeey, I'm Re and I am so TDMing and going to be apping this doofus here. This is Koujirou Genda from Inazuma Eleven

Pre-Awakening: Due to not dealing with his canon's big bad and the military school he went to, he's a lot more open and easy going. He's going to be a very bluntly honest individual who also has no hesitation in helping anyone in need of help because he's a Team Mom and has likely fed people or given them tea if they look like they needed it. He's going to be in Year 3 of the Lower Cycle at Green Valley and I'm debating him being a helper in the library or some other sort of role where he would get solicited for help with homework or where to find the best reference material for a project.

He's also going to live in an apartment complex about a thirty min commute away from the school. An apartment that is normally empty save him because of very work committed parents.

Awakening: He's going to get all the fun memories of being a side character in a sports anime that at times you wonder if this actually is an anime about soccer. This means he'll be a lot more quiet, rigid, and by the book because Teikoku was not only a military academy but also the main base for the Big Bad. So he's now got a lot of trauma and mental abuse to not only work through but not let it take over his AU life to avoid suspicion.


I want all the AU cr, so let's talk shop about who knows this nerd or who has likely been mom'd by him at some point.

Ah, hi everyone! I'm Kaysper and am tentatively planning to bring this girl, Mitsuru Kirijo from Persona 3 onto the TD and seeing how she works out. I... may have spent more time brainstorming AU ideas than I should have.

As a rough sketch for background, I'm considering giving her a fake name: Michelle Chastain and a Japanese-French heritage to boot. She's still the same academic study-nut as her canon self, but finds herself a lot more estranged from her family than originally. (Still toying with the root of that, but I'm actually considering making her illegitimate. Because why not pry those insecurities and exacting standards she has about measuring up to the Kirijo Family wide open.) She also may end up being a rising star on the school fencing team, plus being an honors student. Personality wise, she may be a few degrees warmer/approachable, but still very distant and formal.

I might also be bringing a few more characters onto the TD, but I find myself wanting to focus on Mitsuru, first. So talk shop to me at will?

So these two both have French heritage and are on the fencing team! Heck, they could bond over demanding families too, although AU Adrien keeps it buried deep. They probably wouldn't be close pre-Awakening, since he'll be just as distant with an added dollop of disdain, but once he wakes up he'll be much more eager to reach out.

Hi. I'm Saff (Saffire), and I'm planning on potentially bringing Shinjiro Aragaki from Persona 3 here. Female route, specifically, because development. Despite attempting to be as antisocial and aloof as humanely possible due to Reasons, Shinjiro is more or less the secret rough-talking mother bear of SEES in his canon. His "hobbies" in game include telling his stupid best friend "no" on a daily basis, walking around in a coat and beanie 24/7, making friends with cute animals, and marathoning his universe's version of Iron Chef when he thinks no one is watching.

His AU background is still up in the air, except he'll likely have parents this time around in some fashion or another. Considering he'll be without a lot of his canon memories until he gets them back in-game, he'll generally be much easier to socialize with and will probably be one of those end-year highschool kids who likes to skip class on a weekly basis if anyone wants pre-memories CR with him or some other kind of connection smashed into his AU history.

THIS SAID? These two seem to be in for some pretty dramatic role reversals when it comes to family. It'll be interesting to see how they interact, particularly since they've both done some thawing thanks to memory loss. I'm debating giving Mitsuru an intense fondness/appreciation for cooking due to her own false memories of her mother, even if she's never learned how to do so. Potential for CR, there?

This is probably a highly questionable idea but HELLO! I'm James, and I'll be trying out the test drive with.... Chikusa Kakimoto from Katekyo Hitman Reborn.

tl;dr - Part of a mafia family that was outcast for doing horrific things, so the family decided that doing more horrific things to the children of the family by using them in experiments. Eventually they were horribly murdered by one in particular, who escaped with the last two surviving kids, and they grew up into murderous teens who just want to see the world burn. But mostly the mafia.

In canon, Chikusa is the only one in the trio with no notable special powers, relying more on poison and stealth hits, and he's generally known as coming off extremely emotionless.

I'm not sure how I'll translate him into his Pre-Awakening, but I'd like him to have a very nice normal life full of pleasantness to contrast greatly with the god awful bullshit he's going to remember. Probably an A+ student with very good grades, a few close friends, etc, etc. So, uh, any handwaved CR would be great, assuming I decide to make the questionable life choice of apping. However, I do think he'll still have depression problems that have made him somewhat reserved, which will get worse when he remembers things, so... There's that.

Also fun fact: I know fuck all about Persona besides 2.

I don't really know how to do this, but considering I want Genda here to be a library regular and helper in there they likely know one another at least in passing. Though likely they'd probably work even better after awakening considering trauma parties their canons are regarding them.

Hello! I'm Gray (graygriffin) and I'm bringing in Louis from The Trumpet of the Swan. He's definitely going to be a music teacher at the school, and will still be mute as a human. Although he'll probably be able to play more than just the trumpet now, due to having limbs and all. He may or may not be married in his AU, I'll have to think about it.

He will be a very encouraging teacher, one who wants all his students to do as well as possible and find their passion. When out of school, he can be found just bouncing around town, often buying food at cheap food stands and eating by the lake.

I still need to find a human PB for him. I was thinking about using Louis Armstrong, but I have no idea if that's a good idea or not.

Considering Kidou Yuuto (it's so weird using his first name) would be going through trying everything, he probably took a crack at picking up an instrument at one point, if you'd like these two to have some starting CR.

He's also a decent enough singer (canon | and this because it cracks me up (he's the deeper voice)) so maybe that could be an option. Who knows?

Hello friends, Fyre here! I'm going to be test driving and hopefully apping this kid here, Utsugi Lenka from the anime version of the God Eater franchise! AKA UFOtable went a little crazy with Powerpoint effects, watched too many episodes of Attack on Titan and sundry Tragedy Anime and this was the result. :'D

No but basically, he's your regular low-key seriousface shounen protag who is also a hick who was raised in the wilderness of the death of human civilization and fights giant monsters with a very hungry fridge horror gunblade. His specialties are his highly expressive eyebrows and tendency to get impaled a lot.

So, obviously, it's time to throw him into Persona-world and get some high school AU going! He'll most likely be attending Green Valley, with a sterling reputation as a top of the class guy who occasionally gets suspended for getting into other people's fights, is really into gardening, probably is on the soccer team and inexplicably owns a motorcycle. I'm making it up as I go along for the moment, bear with me!

I'd love cross-canon CR of all kinds, so please feel free to hit me up if you want a mini-flowershop AU, to get splashed in the rain by a passing motorcycle, study groups, tutoring, eating contests, sudden sports anime moments, and so on!

Hello, I'm Alec and this guy here is Ankh from the toku series Kamen Rider OOO. He is an anti-hero of the story and also actually a bird monster called a Greeed made out of mystical coins (Core which is like the brain and soul and Cells which is the basic body) but due to circumstances beyond his control (aka a greedy man tried to steal the powers of the Greeed)he was reduced to a floaty monster bird arm that took a dying police officer over in order to get around better in the modern world. He does get his body back but he still kinda likes to sport the human form.

Anyways as part of his Au backstory, Ankh will gain a twin brother and a sister and while he kinda sorta goes to college, he spends a lot more of his time being a model and actor and the like as a member of a boy band. His personality isn't going to be a lot different from the grump that the bird is in canon, but he is going to at least have a better sense of humor and not be as purposely trying to kill everyone. He is going to be the less social Navigator ever but since he fills a similar role in canon, I thought it would be fun to try.

Hi! I'm Kiwi and I'm with the Yuri on Ice people above, bringing in Victor Nikiforov. In canon he's an ex (sort of) legendary figure skater who hasn't done much else with his life and is a pretty charming show pony of sorts. He's spent his whole life skating and only recently gave it up to start coaching, so learning how to relate to people outside his role on the ice is a strange, wonderful new world.

For the AU, I'm thinking of making him a librarian or something similar, because he's got some weird esoteric knowledge that I figure I can work into that kind of profession, and he's good at being helpful (though his skill as a mentor figure leaves a lot to be desired). I'd be really interested in finding an AU family for him because he isn't seen with one in canon (at least, so far). A spouse? Sibling? Parent?

By that I mean I would like this, because Genda is a very serious and bluntly honest honor roll student before he gets his memories back and would not know what to do regarding Victor.

He's a literal sword. 50/50 chance if he'll talk about it or decide it's just too socially awkward (like, not bad, just the sort of thing that's hard to just mention) and skip over it up until six months later in which he makes some offhand remark and people go, "Wait, what?"

Anyway, tentative AU: college student, works as a barista, probably has a rep for making suspicious RNGed drinks for his friends/regulars/targets, also does art, and probably installed some guerrilla art more than once in random places. Like he was responsible for the purple Sasquatch in the quad or something.

Heya! I'm Bree (amabree) and I'm thinking about bringing in Yamamoto Takeshi from the anime/manga Katekyo Hitman Reborn - tho from the manga side.

He's basically the sweetest baseball-loving kid on the planet, who ends up joining the 'mafia' because he thinks it's all one big game (and also because friendship). Yam's also a really good swordsman - though I have to canon review the hell out of him before I actually write up his app.

That said, I have more ideas on what his persona will look than his AU life atm. :> But he'll probably be an average student that plays on the baseball team, and generally gets along with all the students because that's just the kind of kid he is. So don't really think there will be much change to his personality, but he'll likely be the oldest sibling out of the group (with a little sister and two brothers) and normal parents.

Also a dog. Because fitting. - At least that's what I'm considering for him right now.

Hey, I'm Cro / Crobatman and I'm going to try to be on the TDM! I've got this goggle dork here - Yuuto Kidou from Inazuma 11.

Some idea about what kind of AU I'm aiming for:

Pre-Awakening
Since he doesn't have any of the conditioning, horrible childhood or the incident that led him to picking up soccer, he won't have goggles on (that's gonna be weird) and he won't play soccer. Instead, he'll be the open, friendly shounen protag he was going to be.

He's never found that one thing, or people he truly clicks with, so he drifts through groups of people and activities, guided by whim or whatever seems most interesting. While open and friendly, and with a firm enthusiasm for anything he gets into, Kidou hasn't really gotten that close to any one person or group. He's a fast learner and he's typically good at whatever he tries because he pours himself into mastering it, but he's not the best at anything. He looks out for kids who get bullied and has no problem throwing down in a fight to protect someone, and has just enough martial arts training to pull that off.

He probably has a reputation of just being an extra person you can get, and for being willing to help out where he can. Just don't expect him to stick around. Please feel free to assume you know who he is or have heard of him!

I don't know what his family life is like, but I'd be open to anyone who wants to do anything! The one note I'll make is, unlike the soccer prodigy he is in canon, in the AU he's never even played it. He'll be in second year middle school at Green Valley, so 13-14 age range.

Awakening, though... ho boy. Kidou is a deeply messed up person to the point where he wears goggles 24/7, feels allergic to being allowed to have opinions, and tends to see himself as his function instead of as a person. Anything he does, he has to be perfect at.

He's been molded into being the ultimate tactician and genius commander who exists to guide his team to victory... but he tends to discount himself as a person. This is a kid who takes himself so seriously he can't even let himself be amused at things, and someone so bad at simply interacting with people he has to ask someone else how to talk to his sister. He's got a hyperfocus so trained that he performs triage on his thoughts and has massive blind spots for things that he doesn't find he needs to focus on.

Kidou's mentor happens to be the big bad, and his shadow stays hanging over him and everything he does - victory at all costs was Kageyama's motto and one that Kidou has to fight himself to veer away from. He has an ongoing identity crisis. Fun times. And that's not even everything - so that's all stuff he'll have to handle.

Hi everybody! I'm Ginko (nasuporn), and I really can't decide who to throw on the tdm but I'll hopefully make up my mind soon... I'm a longtime Persona fan so I def wanna give it a shot with someone!

I'm really considering either Rin Tohsaka, Sakura Matou, or Kirei Kotomine from Fate/, but I have Persona 2 muses I haven't taken out in a while too! ... maya-nee and lisa (◡‿◡✿) With the Fate/s, Rin's basically the super dependable/mature/gets shit done tsundere, Sakura's a quieter and more softspoken girl who's still got amazing strength and might work as a Fuuka-esque navigator type, and Kirei... well, kirei is just the biggest outright pos and villain in catholic priest form to ever exist (he is smiling at a little girl crying in that gif, btw). Distantly, part of me thinks it might be cool to try out Professor Layton with a Persona, too.

Hello, everyone! I'm Jen/magentaskies, and I am going to be testing out Riko Sakurauchi from Love Live Sunshine. She is a school idol who loves painting and piano. She is also the composer for Aqours, the school idol group she's a part of. It hasn't all been easy - they have had to start from nothing and are focused on going from zero to one. This means their fan base, but it also means interest in their school. It's on the verge of closing, and so like their heroes from the first series, they want to save it.

I am still very much working on her AU, but I intend to work her music in there. Either way, she's going to be the healing type.

Sup. I'm Annie and while I normally play Chara from Undertale (@characlysmic). I've been wanting to test out a new muse, and I've been thinking this game might be the place to do it. Guts is from the popular manga Berserk. He's a dark twisted lonely warrior, who lost nearly everything and pursues an old friend that betrayed him fanatically, at the cost of his sanity and well being. He is also a very good dad. He is a dad with a big sword and he has like 5 kids now.

Of course, before his awakening, he lacks a lot of his trauma and he's your typical edgy leather jacket wearing smoker, who keeps quiet at the back of class and comes in second place on track meets. He's missing an arm like in canon, though he lost his in a car crash and was fitted with a prosthetic. Just the sort of quiet dude you'd find standing outside of school or working odd jobs to make money.

Post awakening: He is 100% going to succumb to the fury of his own shadow and screw everyone on his team over but AFTER that he'll fight for any cause that will let him set things right in this city. And probably adopt any kids around.
