Round 2: Pre-Awakening AUs, Personas and Tarots, Lets Plan!

We've made this post for a very quick round of pre-drive planning. Post the characters that you are interesting in trying out and ask for advice or suggest, or even try to look/entice for castmates! Suggest pre-made AUs where someone from cross canon has been living with you for a while, so when you begin the test proper tomorrow you'll have an idea of what you want to do!

The city of Eddan is like a typical metropolis, your characters can have any job that would make sense in a busy city. They don't have to be restricted to the school, or have a school job.

You are free to continue using this post to plan or ask the mods test-drive related questions. We'll do our best to answer in a timely manner! If you're not sure, don't be shy about asking. There's a lot of freedom!

You can also request to roll for a Persona. You can find information about Persona and the Awakening here. Ask for as many test drive characters you have if you'd like!

If you want to assign your character a tarot card for test drive purposes, you're free to pick whatever you think fits best. Your character's actual Arcana will be assigned after being accepted.

Let's begin! And remember, the test drive will is Already In Progress

That is sad. I'd say something along the lines of, "But it's not even their soccer here," but that doesn't really help when it's playing with his friends that he'll be missing, huh? (At least they can still practice together on their own time.)

Amazing. For being such a stickler about good behavior, Christopher sure seems to be okay with abusing school property with his face!

Excuse you, he's not picking fights, he's finishing them. Somebody has to, and since you people can't keep up, you may as well just leave it all up to him.

Hi! I'm Tam @weirdtakoyaki and looking into bringing in my girl Angel from the Borderlands series! (though likely with a different journal)

The last game I had Angel in was also an AU, so there are elements that I might draw from that version of her for the AU here, if they end up working.

Angel is a bit of a complicated character, in the series you only meet/see her in person once, while the rest of the time she stays in touch with the PC through a communicator system, posing as a helpful AI until her reveal as a human girl (though still one with incredible magic-like powers). She is also a prisoner of her father Jack, trapped in a high security underground facility where her powers are exploited for his gain until she convinces the PC to help her commit suicide by cutting off the drug(kinda) supply keeping her alive.

So, major things I would like to work on/around:

i. Her ambiguity. I was thinking something along the lines of her being a sickly shut-in, who communicates mostly through the network and other forum or chat type platforms, and isn't seen in person till she awakens.

ii. Her close relationship with her father. because Angel's narrative is so closely tied to Jack's, I want to make sure there is some breathing room for any possible future Jack player. It would be some great tragedy material for her to have a happy family life in the AU only to remember the awful truth upon awakening, but don't want to complicate or force a narrative for a potential Jack.

iii. Her dependence on eridium (kinda-drug mentioned in her breakdown.) In canon she's force-fed this alien material to increase her powers, and it has been so long that she can no longer survive without it. If possible I'd like to mimic this somehow in game.

The things I know for certain are that I'd like her to be a navigator type, since that's what she is in her canon (she's basically the navi of borderlands) that she will be around 18 yrs and that I will be taking her from post-death.

Planning AUs is always really fun, thanks in advance for any suggestions!

ah yes hello, my name is Xel! And I am thinking I will be bringing you this cryptid of a dude, known otherwise as Royce Bracket from the slightly obscure game Transistor. Transistor is a touching story about a furious mute lady, her sword boyfriend, and the secret society that Ruined Everything in the process of making their city great again. Royce in particular helped Ruin Everything harder than most and he's basically not sorry about it. Oops.

HERE ARE SOME CANON ROYCE THINGS:
➤ 37. Expert in math and engineering.
➤ Also architecture and computer programming. These things might seem kind of diverse but Cloudbank is a weird world that more or less seems to be a Matrix/San Junipero sort of situation, so they're actually functionally all the same discipline.
➤ As such, Royce designed a TON of stuff in the city of Cloudbank. Roads, buildings, sculptures, you name it. He was very passionate about it too. But there's a problem: in Cloudbank, everybody gets a say in what the city looks like, and the majority opinion is always changing. Royce pours his all into building a tower, Cloudbank votes for a park sometime later, tower is deleted so a park can live there. Park gets to chill for a while until the people want a fountain. Then the fountain gets torn down because they feel like a tower. Sounds a little frustrating, right?
➤ Yeah, Royce gets super butthurt about this state of affairs after a while. He starts designing more and more daring and avant-garde stuff hoping that it might last a little longer, but the people always get tired of it eventually. So Royce effectively retires and flounces off to a surburb of his own creation, where he starts obsessively trying to understand the pattern behind the changes to the city.
➤ He ends up discovering the hidden mechanism behind everything that gets built in Cloudbank. These alien robot critters are collectively called the Process.
➤ He also stumbles upon the Transistor, a USB sword.
➤ Royce's longtime friend Grant, a high-ranking city admin, agrees with Royce that the people don't know what's good for them and hatches the zany plan to make Cloudbank its best self by STRAIGHT UP MURDERING a bunch of influential citizens and like, sucking their essence into the Transistor to use as they see fit. Royce is just like, totally fine with this I guess. The way this works is like... let's say Cloudbank is a canvas, right? The Transistor is your brush, and the Process is essentially your paint if paint could also start to rage out of control and Delete Fucking Everything.
➤ So yeah, that happens. Royce is just like "my bad."
➤ He's a little softspoken and socially awkward but cordial and at least a little bit charming.
Impeccable fashion sense, weirdly. His outside doesn't match his true character like, at all.
➤ Inexplicably has a bit of a gentle southern accent.
➤ Was a graduate of the prestigious Traverson Hall, which is literally almost the same deal as Green Valley. So that worked out p awesomely.
➤ Resting bitch face
➤ Chainsmoker (there is no lung cancer in Cloudbank)
➤ Royce/Process OTP
➤ It's a one-sided ship; the Process seems to kind of think he's a dick.
➤ Villainous origin story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zi8ShAosqzI
➤ Crazy tall. Like 6'3'' at minimum, 50% leg with a dorito build.
➤ In terms of basic personality, he's airy, artistic, introverted, curious, prideful, and just a little folksy. Outwardly he's a fairly affable guy, but there is something a little off about it. The best way I can describe it is "amicably empty." It doesn't help that his morals seem to be, um, pretty flexible.

HERE ARE A COUPLE AU ROYCE THINGS:
➤ Graduate of Green Valley, now works in some capacity for the city maybe?
➤ Architect/planner/civil engineer, something of that nature.
➤ Is probably rather attached to Eddan! Because it's his, you see.
➤ Disapproves of this rash of murders but admittedly is super curious about them. Probably because he and his colleagues committed a rash of murders in another life.
➤ Will probably become a little addicted to the rush of summoning his Persona.
➤ Requires friends and colleagues to prop up his ego, make him be social, and convince him to make terrible life decisions. That last one doesn't seem to be very hard.

Oh god this is so much. His TDM thread can be found here, at any rate! Obligatory mentions that I'm super excited about the premise and would do unspeakable things in the name of enabling castmates. Wow it sure is 3am I'm gonna go to bed

I'd be down for a PE teacher! Michi Yamashita (Yuuto Kidou in canon, Western order) here is on the track team, and in canon he's a genius at soccer, so he's very physically capable. He's also going to flip from being a good-natured, if a little too shounen protag, generally happy-seeming person into a tightly controlled person who lost the ability to express opinions or admit to having feelings about things when awakened. Suddenly he goes from being one of those kids you learn the name of on day one to someone who's always obedient and doing only what he should be doing.

He'll be a navigator, obsessed with justice and keeping everyone okay, as well as ensuring they succeed at whatever goal he's given. He'll suddenly think over almost everything he says. In canon, this is a 14 year old who went to a military school where firearms training was part of PE classes, so things are going to get strange.

... His canon is a show about soccer. Your guess is as good as mine there.

If you go the chuuni route, I've got a fellow chuuni (even though he's got reasons for it, Kidou please). In canon his standard outfit involves wearing goggles 24/7 - we have actual scenes with him asleep in them - and a cape when playing soccer. He takes himself incredibly seriously. Everyone else takes him incredibly seriously. It's kind of amazing.

His AU self, Michi Yamashita, isn't exactly one, though he does drift from hobby to hobby and through clubs in some attempt to learn literally everything. He half counts.

I demand that fourteen year old kids know each other. This is Yuuto Kidou, who has, no matter what, an incredibly strong sense of justice and fair play, so that could be interesting post awakening. He's also weird.

In canon, his game of choice to master is soccer. He's a usually distant person who often can come off as cold, and keeps himself composed whenever possible. Cold, tactical logic is his thing. He's also a tryhard perfectionist who makes it his mission to master anything he takes on. As the heir to a financial company, he pretty much has to be perfectly behaved and always on the ball. (Deep down he's a marshmallow, and a dork. Which brings us to:)

In AU, he's Michi Yamashita, an outgoing, friendly shounen protag. A little on the gentler side of things, all told. Tends to move from club to club in some ill-advised attempt to master everything, and thus is decently well known. He's outwardly warm towards people and hasn't lost his ability to express opinions, act his age, let people know he has a sense of humor, or say how he feels about some things. Has yet to try soccer at all.

There's a very good chance that these two could be friends. Kidou here's a navigator, so that could be beneficial later on.

(This person is still there with Kidou, but he's buried down under layers and layers of conditioning and trauma. He's something closer to what Kidou could have been if he had a different backstory.)

Mukuro isn't that bad he swears. Ah! But yeah, absolutely! :> Also laughing at Yamamoto in gardening club because that sounds adorable, but he will certainly be the sort to help out Lenka if someone messes with his friends - he doesn't even have to know any of them, he just will! But I feel like he'll also see Lenka as a really cool senpai for all of those reasons.

Also for some reason I thought of campuses as different buildings at first, but ah!! So they'll likely not run into each other too much, but honestly if Yamamoto hasn't been at every campuses, then he's not making enough friends. lsdjf

I mean, considering Yamamoto's canon, weird is pretty normal for him. But I would be delighted for these two kids to be friends, yeeees.

Yamamoto also plays soccer!! So they can absolutely play together, when Yuuto's memories come back to him, but I feel like my baseball nerd might start to fret over him if he notices the other start to become more distant. sdlfjs In a sense of consistently dragging him out to do fun things or trying to find ways to cheer him up because no friendo what hurt you.

But they'll absolutely have run into each other then, if his AU self pops around to different clubs. Yamamoto mostly sticks to the sport teams, but he's the kind of person who'll help out wherever people want him to, so chances of them having talked more than once is pretty high. '^'

HELLO THERE I mostly missed out on Byakuran's arc of KHR because I got spectacularly lazy but from what I know I feel obliged to attempt recruiting him for the gardening club just because, y'know. /stares at his username :3c

Currently we have a good handful of members (including Chikusa and I think Yamamoto might gatecrash sometimes, plus a few other accidental friends that drop by), a complex of greenhouses on the Green Valley campus (I assume he goes to GV, what cycle will he be in!), probably some kind of butterfly house annnnd that's most of what we got so far. (We have a flowerfest mingle here, and the prompts are totes open to be used on the TDM because why the hell not. 8))

I SHOULD probably also introduce me and my character, hi I'm Fyre, we've run into each other here and there in James' plurk and I play Lenka here, who's basically your garden (heh) variety quiet-style shounen protag. He's 1st year of senior cycle at GV and an officer in the gardening club, which mostly means he's saddled with all the paperwork. |D

Mukuro isn't even the most shady one here so close enough?! Awakening is going to be fun because I feel like neither of them are going to change all that much (relatively speaking) except to go from a 9 to a 13 on the wrecking shit front. |DD Also omg, Yamamoto... Lenka's decent at playing it cool but tbh he's just a giant dork in disguise so I'm laughing.

It's all good, once Shadowhunting really starts for everyone they'll have plenty of opportunity to catch up and all. :3c Age is no object to PERSONAAAA.

tldr: "What hurt you" can be summarized by 'Kageyama'. His mentor/ surrogate father figure ruined him. It's pretty heartbreaking; canon Kidou has decent self esteem but no idea about his own identity. What Kageyama did to him was essentially chip away at his lingering sense of self that already was at risk from being adopted until his identity is his role. He is a Kidou; that's a role. He's a playmaker; that's also a role. He has no idea what's left of himself that's just him, and not what. So he's a weird case of someone with decent self esteem but with massive identity issues, and little feeling of self worth. It gets him every single time that anyone would ever support him to the extent that he looks amazed that someone will help him off the ground. So yeah, there is an ocean of problems to get into there. Please do fret over him, it's warranted.

That said! Once he's awakened, he'll be more likely to not want people to drift out of his life either. Just because he's lost the ability to know how to connect to people like a normal human being doesn't mean he doesn't attach deeply. That'll make this easier on Yamamototo! (and he'll awaken before him, since he was in the first round of applicants. There'll be some ????? before there's even the beginning of a clue why he suddenly broke)

At least he's going to stick to soccer and never leave it once his memories return. It isn't the soccer he knows and loves, at all. It's cold and dead compared to his over the top canon, but it's at least a facsimile of soccer.

I've established that Michi was part of the swim team for a short while, and currently does track and martial arts. Would any of those work?

I honestly like the chuuni route for 2B just because of how crazy her canon is. She'll probebly go around muttering about conspiracies, robots, and some kind of dark empire if I i go with this AU.

I think I've run into you on Kes's plurk too! And it's ok. TYL arc is a slog.

After giving it some thought, gardening and cooking clubs are probably where he's at. Any chance to surround himself with flowers and sweets. He'll be senior cycle 1st or 2nd year, most likely, as he's about 16, and he's been going to GV a while so he knows the ins and outs of campus. He's planning to be, of all things, a patissier, but this whole thing will probably throw off his plans.

While he won't buy into a word, you can bet Michi's entertained enough by it to want to hear the latest updates. Until he started seeming a little spooked by it about two weeks ago, and got far more interested in what she had to say.

Quite likely! We're hard to tell apart sometimes. :3a TYL is mostly worth it for the grown up babies but I got distracted. One of these days I'll get through the rest. One of these days...!

Oh man, the intersection of gardening and cooking, the golden crossing! Does this mean gardening club gets cake because we have some skinny mofos over here to feed, regardless of whether we're just stuffing them full of sugar or not, sometimes you gotta punch some nutrients into those beanpoles before they wilt. :Ub Also, sweet, that means they're either classmates or general campusmates, good times. Also the idea of Byakuran as a patissier is kind of just great in general, I love it.

Would certainly be quite confusing once I update him beyond the Future Arc. sldj

But as of right now, directly after they win the battle for the Vongola Rings with the Varia. Mostly 'cause reading through the manga has been a bit slow since I have another character who's been busy in his game lately. '^' But after stuff with him settles down, I'll likely canon update Yamamoto to after that Future Arc - probably to the point with the Vindice, really.

Looks like Yamamoto's gonna have to try and fix that!! He's absolutely going to be the sort of person to try and let this poor kid know there's a lot more to him than he thinks, so be prepared for Yamamoto lowkey being the best friend he can be when hears about all this. Just isn't in his nature to let the people he's become friends with not have someone they can turn to for support, and if he can give it he will.

But aaaah, that does sound pretty sad! That's good to hear that Yamamoto won't have to try as hard to be there for him, however. :> Also most sports anime is probably a lot cooler than the actual sport, let's be real.

But hmmm. I'd say track would probably be the most likely, since there's a lot of running in baseball so he'd probably want to be in a club that helps him get better at his sport.

I wish I could say Kidou's the best at emotional support, but we're talking about someone who had to ask his friend how to talk to his sister. He's a master of a lot of things, but he's learned so much at the expense of social skills. He WILL however be a solid, loyal ally to all of his friends - both ones he realized his other self had on Awakening and those he's made in this world.

He'll be support in his own way. Really though. Inazuma soccer is hardcore. (And yes, the one saying 'koutei penguin' is Kidou's voice. there.)

Track, then! Actually for that tie, there's another character on this post who's in track. Go see if you want to hit Fubuki up, too.

Yeah, Yamamoto's basically going to be the same, though he'll likely not throw himself into baseball as much. Likely be a bit more interested in keeping his sword skills up to shape, and honestly might... end up wanting to do matches with other sword fighters. > > 'Cause why not it'll be fun. But yeah 9 to a 13 is def. how I'd categorize what's gonna happen when he starts getting his memories. sldfj

Also have you met Tsuna?? sldf BUT YES, shadowhunting is going to be so much fun. '^' Honestly it seems like he's mostly friends with navigators at this point as well, so that'll certainly makes thing interesting. sldf
