tldr: "What hurt you" can be summarized by 'Kageyama'. His mentor/ surrogate father figure ruined him. It's pretty heartbreaking; canon Kidou has decent self esteem but no idea about his own identity. What Kageyama did to him was essentially chip away at his lingering sense of self that already was at risk from being adopted until his identity is his role. He is a Kidou; that's a role. He's a playmaker; that's also a role. He has no idea what's left of himself that's just him, and not what. So he's a weird case of someone with decent self esteem but with massive identity issues, and little feeling of self worth. It gets him every single time that anyone would ever support him to the extent that he looks amazed that someone will help him off the ground. So yeah, there is an ocean of problems to get into there. Please do fret over him, it's warranted.
That said! Once he's awakened, he'll be more likely to not want people to drift out of his life either. Just because he's lost the ability to know how to connect to people like a normal human being doesn't mean he doesn't attach deeply. That'll make this easier on Yamamototo! (and he'll awaken before him, since he was in the first round of applicants. There'll be some ????? before there's even the beginning of a clue why he suddenly broke)
At least he's going to stick to soccer and never leave it once his memories return. It isn't the soccer he knows and loves, at all. It's cold and dead compared to his over the top canon, but it's at least a facsimile of soccer.
I've established that Michi was part of the swim team for a short while, and currently does track and martial arts. Would any of those work?
