Katherine will be quite honest in that she initially came to this whole confusing and frightening mess because it didn't sit right with her to just let a child- and most teenagers are children, she's found- go wander off at night when there's a murderer on the loose. What she could do, she hasn't the faintest, but at least as an adult, she could keep her head cool. That's what she'd thought, at least, before she'd set off with a bag around her shoulders and pepper spray tucked inside of it.
Now, standing here frozen in the face of something dark and monstrous- Black Tezcatlipoca her mind whispers, a glitch in her memories like so many before- she's not so sure. Before she can do anything, whether grab the boy and run or reach for her bag, he's running off ahead, and Katherine gives a small cry. Her own heart is pounding pounding pounding, like it'll just burst straight out of her chest, but she tries to ignore it. All she focuses on is suddenly lunging forward as well, grabbing for his shoulder as he stumbles.
"C'mon now, gittup!" As the monster stalks closer, she leans down, trying to get the boy's arm around her shoulder.
