Round 1: Test Drive

Welcome to the first test drive!

Please don't worry too much about using your Personas correctly or following the prompts exactly. They're meant to give you starting ideas, but by all means, go wild and add more options!

The objective here is to try out characters and see who you could have the most fun with in the game's setting. However, feel free to follow this link to request a Persona be generated for you as if you were part of the game. (Please try to limit this to only one of your test drive characters if you can as to not overwhelm us! Never mind generating Personas is a pretty fast process! Request for as many characters away as you like!)

If you have questions about the test drive itself, you can ask them here! If you want to play an AU don't forget this entire post can be used for you to get AU scenarios set up and see who your character might have been related too or know before Awakening.

Now then, let's begin...

Prompt 1 - From Dawn to Dusk

The city has been abuzz for the past few weeks. A new string of murders is making front page news and serving as a grim reminder why the nightly curfew is so important. As families, perhaps even someone close to you, mourn, pressure continues to rise at the many police stations and at city hall. The people are afraid and they’re demanding answers.

There's not much time for you to dwell on this.. Like everyone else in the city, you have a lot to do, and a tight schedule to do it in. You don't even notice the application that has appeared on your phone's screen. The headache that follows, however, is strange and disorienting, and it brings with it an odd sensation that something is wrong today. You’re just not sure why.

The day passes by and soon, it's close to midnight. Your body, if you're not in bed by now, is completely exhausted. Despite your best efforts, you'll find yourself closing your eyes. Too bad it's quickly interrupted by a strange noise, and movement like something pulsating softly.

It's your phone, or at least you think it's your phone, but it's never glowed this orange before. There’s mist rising above it almost like fire...something's definitely bizarre about this. Despite your fears, you forces yourself to open it, and click on that strange snake-like icon.

It opens revealing a single statement and blank box;

To begin, please write your name.

Your fingers move on their own. Before you have time to really think about it, and as the pain inside your head becomes so terrible you start breathing rapidly and sweating, you've entered a series of letters and pressed enter. Now you're in a large chatroom with many others...but your 'name' you've never even heard of it...have you? It almost feels like you have...

Prompt 2 - Awakening

The last rays of the sun disappeared over the horizon almost an hour ago, yet here you are, walking through the apple orchards located behind one of the campus wings. The strange app that's been sending you strange clues the past seven days now says you're ready to face the truth. It told you to come here tonight, but never to travel alone. Repeatedly, it warns you to make sure to have someone close by if you're to survive…but besides some friends, what else did you bring with you? Did you pack for this, or did you figure you'd make it up as you go? Are you in a position to be able to bring weapons with you that no one would suspect?

Something is out there, and it's getting closer.

Before you can think, you see it: a large, blackish mass, almost like slime, slithering along the ground resembling a vaguely humanoid shape with glowing yellow eyes. When it roars again, it reveals rows and rows of teeth. This was a mistake your brain warns. The strange name from the chatroom, the days leading up to this...you're fairly certain even if you are prepared that you're going to die.

And yet, something inside you stirs. Even as they move closer, you find yourself charging instead of running, as your heartbeat increases. A voice inside is guiding you, each movement bringing forth a surge of memories of a past that you had lost. You’re angry and confused, but your pain, your fears, your rage for all of this… all of that needs to be taken out on those creatures.

All you need to do now is to tear out your heart.

Prompt 3 - A new, old life

Now that you have your memories back, the strange veil of this world has been somewhat lifted. Things that seemed simple now seem strange. You have so many questions, but not enough answers. Then there's the new weapons you wield and the strange creature inside of you...your Heart Persona.

During the day, you are encouraged to continue to live as you did before, but with old and new memories together, sometimes it is difficult to keep acting like you did. Will it cause issues in your job or school life? Will it change your reactions to whatever life you had here? Do you notice others like you who have awakened?

Maybe it would be a good time to send a chatroom message, just to ask others what they are planning to do. Maybe you should set up a meeting to fight shadows at night. Maybe you’ll organize a plan of attack or set up a club to escape the strange looks others have been giving you. Maybe you just want someone's opinion on the best place to have pizza. Hey, no one said you had to use the AppleNET just for serious things, after all.

[ Less for fun, more for science. Or at least, that would be his excuse. Still, Galen doesn't have as much stamina as the younger folks running around and his Persona is more support based than others'. Useful in a team, maybe. Not really useful getting out of a jam. ]

I recognize your voice, Teruomi, and your assistance would be appreciated. I'm cornered by three of these creatures and if you have electric attacks, that would be greatly beneficial.

[ He doesn't really understand how all of this works yet, but the first thing he latched on to was the enemies' weak spot. ]

[ When you put two Navigators in the same party.... well, at least it's weak to the one thing he can actually pull off. ]

Yeah, I've got one.

[ Galen would be able to see a youth with green hair and some sort of spindly blue thing following him. The Persona raises one of its arms once it's in range and shoots a bolt of lightning over at one of the monsters. ]

Hello, hello! Sir. [ He's a bit out of breath from running. ] Are you okay?
unmaking: (I wish the tide would take me over)

[personal profile] unmaking 2017-04-22 12:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Galen had a more modest sized spinning space ship hovering above him that looked more half-destroyed and somehow more demonic and sinister in it's design, so Teru wasn't the only one with something weird. ]

I'm alright. Just winded.

[ He looked a bit dazed, but that was probably par for the course. At least Teru's help gave him a minute to get back on his feet by healing himself. ]

Your aid is appreciated. Are you alright?

[ In between conversation, he managed to take out one that was knocked out by Teru with Frei. ]

Do you have any idea what these things are?

[personal profile] makababe 2017-04-22 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Two navigators. At least they can see where the enemy is coming from and try to avoid them. ]

I'm good. Buddy here lets me see where they are, so I just skirted around them.

[ He high-fives the spindly blue thing. ]

I don't know, but I saw someone fighting one of them. They bleed jelly things, so maybe some sort of giant black amoeba?
unmaking: (you don't move slow)

[personal profile] unmaking 2017-04-22 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
How fascinating. I can't say I'm familiar with any form of alien life like that, nor of any that live inside of your heart?

[ He shouldn't be familiar with any sort of alien, at all, but somehow that felt right. ]

I wonder what the logistics are to this. There must be some kind of energy we're harvesting to power these...spells, is it? I doubt it has anything to do with the force.

[ He's not force-sensitive, and never mind that his student probably has no idea what he's talking about. The enemies seemed to be getting back up on their feet though while Galen was getting lost in his deep thinking.]

[personal profile] makababe 2017-04-22 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Tsukuyomi are actually Class One Deusphages and therefore extremely dangerous, so it's a miracle this one hasn't killed him. It's also very disconcerting to have a man-eating monster as your Persona, but this one seems to be tame... so it should be fine. Right? ]

Well, you won't find any of these in Eddan, that's for sure. [ He motions to his Persona with one hand. ] I know where they come from, but they're definitely not here.

[ This Earth? How does one explain this... ]

I think there is. [ Does his teacher play video games... probably not. ] I think it's like, mana? I scanned my buddy and there was a MP meter. I think that's the fuel for the spells.

[ He summons a holographic screen in front of him and an image of his Persona appears, along with HP and MP bars. ]

[personal profile] unmaking 2017-04-22 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
So, that [ Galen inclines his head toward Tsukuyomi, completely losing focus with the battle at hand. ] is part of wherever you originate from? I suppose that makes sense. It must hold some importance to you as well, like mine.

[ You're talking to your teacher who has a planet sized machine of death for a Persona, Teru, he'll grasp the concept of other planes of existence and different galaxies fairly quickly. On the other hand, Galen squinted at the holographic screen with some surprise, completely enthralled with this new mystery. ]

These meters mean something to you, then? You're suggesting this is part of the energy source we're utilizing?
makababe: (having to watch your friends die)

[personal profile] makababe 2017-04-22 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Ah, having death machines as personas. #justpurseownerthings ]

Yeah... it does. Kinda. I'm a little surprised to see it here, though.

[ He swipes a few times on the screen to bring up the actual numbers as statistics. ]

HP's for health, how much damage it can take, or we can take. MP's for mana, the energy used to fuel spells. It's kind of like a gas meter? That's the vibe I'm getting -

[ One of the jelly blobs starts rising and his Persona swipes at it with another lightning bolt. The MP gauge on the screen does go down a little. ]

- yeah.

[personal profile] unmaking 2017-04-22 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Then that makes two of us who are surprised by our inner hearts.

[ A beat. Galen was sort of ignoring the implications of his own Persona, focusing on staying alive instead. He analyzes the numbers Teru brings up with genuine interest though. ]

Such a simple system, yet it makes plenty of sense. But where does the energy come from? What is the source for this mana?

[ He concentrates, firing off another nuclear attack with Vinea, sensing a strong physical attack incoming. ]

You might want to guard yourself.

Yes, sir.

[ It's easy enough to get a shield and pay more attention to his radar, which is scanning merrily in the corner of his navigation panel. It's not too different from being an Operator. ]

It probably comes from ourselves, huh. Like... your stamina and everything, I'm guessing.
