It's why he holds back on actually saying more then just that regarding how much his memories hold Kidou in such high regard. Genda had never found a means or the strength to be like Sakuma and find ways to be closer without the Commander disapproving. So while those memories made him realize how important Kidou was to Genda that didn't mean Genda was just as important to Kidou.]
