He can't very well remain uninvolved and take down whoever or whatever is behind this app, and if he does choose to fight, what does he have to offer? The majority of his time outside of school is reserved for track, he doesn't have financial resources he can spare, and while he's smart, he's not exactly up to the task of taking down someone smart enough to program an app that can worm its way onto devices of random (or seemingly random) people of its own accord.
Then again, if he does nothing, isn't that the same as rolling over and giving up? Admitting defeat? And accepting that he's nothing more than a willing guinea pig?
Maybe it's already too late. Maybe he's already involved and there's no going back now. And if that's the case, it really can't hurt to ask...]
