Round 1: Test Drive

Welcome to the first test drive!

Please don't worry too much about using your Personas correctly or following the prompts exactly. They're meant to give you starting ideas, but by all means, go wild and add more options!

The objective here is to try out characters and see who you could have the most fun with in the game's setting. However, feel free to follow this link to request a Persona be generated for you as if you were part of the game. (Please try to limit this to only one of your test drive characters if you can as to not overwhelm us! Never mind generating Personas is a pretty fast process! Request for as many characters away as you like!)

If you have questions about the test drive itself, you can ask them here! If you want to play an AU don't forget this entire post can be used for you to get AU scenarios set up and see who your character might have been related too or know before Awakening.

Now then, let's begin...

Prompt 1 - From Dawn to Dusk

The city has been abuzz for the past few weeks. A new string of murders is making front page news and serving as a grim reminder why the nightly curfew is so important. As families, perhaps even someone close to you, mourn, pressure continues to rise at the many police stations and at city hall. The people are afraid and they’re demanding answers.

There's not much time for you to dwell on this.. Like everyone else in the city, you have a lot to do, and a tight schedule to do it in. You don't even notice the application that has appeared on your phone's screen. The headache that follows, however, is strange and disorienting, and it brings with it an odd sensation that something is wrong today. You’re just not sure why.

The day passes by and soon, it's close to midnight. Your body, if you're not in bed by now, is completely exhausted. Despite your best efforts, you'll find yourself closing your eyes. Too bad it's quickly interrupted by a strange noise, and movement like something pulsating softly.

It's your phone, or at least you think it's your phone, but it's never glowed this orange before. There’s mist rising above it almost like fire...something's definitely bizarre about this. Despite your fears, you forces yourself to open it, and click on that strange snake-like icon.

It opens revealing a single statement and blank box;

To begin, please write your name.

Your fingers move on their own. Before you have time to really think about it, and as the pain inside your head becomes so terrible you start breathing rapidly and sweating, you've entered a series of letters and pressed enter. Now you're in a large chatroom with many others...but your 'name' you've never even heard of it...have you? It almost feels like you have...

Prompt 2 - Awakening

The last rays of the sun disappeared over the horizon almost an hour ago, yet here you are, walking through the apple orchards located behind one of the campus wings. The strange app that's been sending you strange clues the past seven days now says you're ready to face the truth. It told you to come here tonight, but never to travel alone. Repeatedly, it warns you to make sure to have someone close by if you're to survive…but besides some friends, what else did you bring with you? Did you pack for this, or did you figure you'd make it up as you go? Are you in a position to be able to bring weapons with you that no one would suspect?

Something is out there, and it's getting closer.

Before you can think, you see it: a large, blackish mass, almost like slime, slithering along the ground resembling a vaguely humanoid shape with glowing yellow eyes. When it roars again, it reveals rows and rows of teeth. This was a mistake your brain warns. The strange name from the chatroom, the days leading up to this...you're fairly certain even if you are prepared that you're going to die.

And yet, something inside you stirs. Even as they move closer, you find yourself charging instead of running, as your heartbeat increases. A voice inside is guiding you, each movement bringing forth a surge of memories of a past that you had lost. You’re angry and confused, but your pain, your fears, your rage for all of this… all of that needs to be taken out on those creatures.

All you need to do now is to tear out your heart.

Prompt 3 - A new, old life

Now that you have your memories back, the strange veil of this world has been somewhat lifted. Things that seemed simple now seem strange. You have so many questions, but not enough answers. Then there's the new weapons you wield and the strange creature inside of you...your Heart Persona.

During the day, you are encouraged to continue to live as you did before, but with old and new memories together, sometimes it is difficult to keep acting like you did. Will it cause issues in your job or school life? Will it change your reactions to whatever life you had here? Do you notice others like you who have awakened?

Maybe it would be a good time to send a chatroom message, just to ask others what they are planning to do. Maybe you should set up a meeting to fight shadows at night. Maybe you’ll organize a plan of attack or set up a club to escape the strange looks others have been giving you. Maybe you just want someone's opinion on the best place to have pizza. Hey, no one said you had to use the AppleNET just for serious things, after all.

[Prompt 2-day]

It's a difficult time to be a police officer, especially for Johan Sohn. Everyone looks to him for answers, expects him to have answers, and all he can tell them is that the investigation is ongoing. People are angry, they're scared, and he understands. The idea of his wife or step-son being in danger terrifies him, and he does his best to urge people to stay inside at night and leave the situation up to the police. But it's exhausting, even without the headache he's had ever since he found that strange app on his phone, and occasionally he zones out...only to be brought back to attention by someone or another snapping at him.

Maybe you're visiting the police office in the hopes of finding answers yourself and hear him apologizing, with a slight German accent, for his lapse in concentration. He has a lot on his mind today. Maybe you're out on the street when you see a police officer leaning against a wall and rubbing his forehead, as if trying to fend off a horrible headache. Maybe you've done something wrong and he's writing you a ticket? Whatever the situation, it's clear he's trying to do his best despite his fatigue.

[Prompt 2-night]

You might have come along with Johan to the orchard in hopes of helping solve a mystery, despite his warnings that civilians shouldn't put themselves in such danger. You might have gotten his attention when you were attacked, and ended up fighting the shadowy monster together. You might have just heard the sound of his sidearm as he tried to defend himself when he was attacked, investigating alone after all of his fellow officers dismissed the message as a prank. However both of you ended up in this situation, the moments following the officer's realization that his weapon is useless are spectacular.

He knows he can't stop this thing, this...whatever it is. He shouts at anyone with him to run, trying to keep himself between it and the civilians. He knows he should run, too. If he doesn't, he'll almost certainly die. But he didn't become a police officer to save himself, and he stands his ground even against the mounting terror. That's when the headache that's been building all week hits its peak, something nagging at the back of his mind that he should remember it when it hurts so much he can't even remember his own name. Johan...that's not right. Is it?

'Jan Sauer.'

His head snaps up at the voice, he hadn't even realized he'd doubled over from the pain. The monster is coming closer, but the instinct to run is replaced by something else.

'Your life did not end there, and it will not end here. Remember yourself, raise your voice and call my name, for we are as one.'

He's running to meet his attacker, each step growing heavier as his footsteps ring almost like metal on concrete. When he rips his heart free of his chest, it already looks dead, withered and dry. His heartbeat stops, but unlike others, it doesn't restart even seconds later. He died a hundred years ago, and it's evident in the paleness of his face. His metallic sounding footsteps are explained as light washes over his body, unveiling mechanical legs and a cybernetic right arm. The fear is gone from his face, replaced by grim determination as he shouts,

"Marchosias!"

[Prompt-3]

It's all so familiar, eerily so. Disturbingly so. Being human. Being alive. Having a happy, healthy family that he can't shake the fear of losing. It's as if the Voyager case had never happened, except for some things being slightly different. The wrong planet. His wife's name, his son is a different age, the dog a different breed. The dog is real, and that's normal. But it's similar, enough so that it stirs up hundred year old memories, he keeps coming back to the fear that he's going to come home one day and find them brutally murdered. The thought makes his heart race in anxiety, reminding him again that during the daytime, he's alive, even if certain others can still catch glimpses of his mechanical parts and deathly pale face. Eventually, it drives him to something he's loathe to do: asking others for advice.

Ziggurat8: Does anyone else ever struggle with an expectation of something with no evidence that it will really occur?
kokuyoyo: (I don't do stupid things anymore.)

Before, he never would have really paid much mind to his phone while he was studying, or doing homework. His focus is half of why his grades are as they are, the other half just a natural inclination for things like that. Besides, what would he look up? Not many friends, and he has his computer for browsing.

But ever since that app first showed up...

His pen pauses as his phone lights up besides him with an alert for a new message on the app, and Chikusa glances over it. Honestly, he's not sure what he wants more.... For it to be nothing for him to ignore so he can try to go back into a normal life, or something to justify all his strange thoughts.

It's not quite either, but it's more the latter than anything.

49: Yeah. I keep thinking I'm going to get attacked at any second. My dorm doesn't feel safe enough.
sauerfacedcyborg: (I'm not sure I understand.)

[personal profile] sauerfacedcyborg 2017-04-24 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Ziggurat8: I have the same feeling. There's no evidence to suggest any danger during the daytime or that indoor locations aren't safe, yet I still find myself worried something will happen to my wife and son.

There's a moment's pause, before he follows up with a second message.

You remember a second life as well, correct? Was it a particularly dangerous one?
kokuyoyo: (Apparently I kept telling people I was)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-04-24 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
A wife and son... Chikusa grinds his fingers against his pen, looking out to the rest of his room. One part of him, the part he's always until this point thought was his entire self, marvels that he's in the same sort of situation as someone who's apparently an adult. Another part of him is quietly but intensely jealous.

The people he's concerned about don't even exist, as far as he's been able to tell.

49: Yes.
49: There's not a single memory that there isn't least the threat of something violent happening to me or mine.
sauerfacedcyborg: (Yes?)

[personal profile] sauerfacedcyborg 2017-04-24 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Ziggurat8: That may be the reason, for both of us. Both lives feel real, and mine was a dangerous one as well. It's likely habits from the other lifetimes we remember carrying over despite our differing situations.
kokuyoyo: (I mean I don't even call it a hangover)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2017-04-25 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
49: Considering what what we've run into, can we really say our lives are that different now?
